Lawyer and Student Advocate to Speak About Online Safety at UW

April 21, 2008

C.L. Lindsay, a former lawyer turned student and academic rights advocate, will speak Wednesday, April 23, at the University of Wyoming.

Lindsay's presentation, titled "Campus Computing and the Law," begins at 8 p.m. in the Wyoming Union ballroom. The free event, sponsored by the Student Activities Council, will focus on the consequences of online activity and how to avoid such problems. Lindsay will discuss how potential employers find online information, a student's computing privacy, plagiarism and intellectual property online, and Facebook and MySpace rights.

In 1998, Lindsay left his law practice in New York City to found the Coalition for Student & Academic Rights (CO-STAR). Since then, acting as its executive director, he has built CO-STAR into a national student rights organization that helps thousands of college students with their legal problems, free-of-charge, each year.

Lindsay is also the author of "The College Student's Guide to the Law: Get a Grade Changed, Keep Your Stuff Private, Throw a Police-Free Party, and More!"
