Milward Simpson to Add Fun to Saturday's Concert

April 17, 2008 — The University of Wyoming Wind Ensemble will close the season on a fun note Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall. The UW Department of Music concert is free and open to the public.

"Country Songs and Sagas" will feature great band music from around the globe, plus a special rendition of Prokofiev's famous, "Peter and the Wolf," as set in Old Laramie, adding a western twang to the concert.

The band will perform two of the most popular works in its repertory, Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy" and Gustav Holst's "First Suite in E flat."

"Perhaps most fun on the Saturday night concert will be ‘The Saga of Wyoming Pete,' an altered version of ‘Peter and the Wolf' with some fateful twists and turns as the cowboy hero must stand up to the dastardly ‘El Lobo!'" says UW Professor of Music Bob Belser.

Milward Simpson, director of the Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources, will be the special guest narrator. He will narrate the story as Wyoming Pete woos the "purdiest gal in town, only to be interrupted by the town villain," says Belser. "With Milward's flair for the dramatic it will be a crowd pleaser!"
