UW Gold Candidates Announced

Top University of Wyoming students have been designated as candidates for UW Gold distinction, which replaces traditional Homecoming royalty.

Students are nominated on the basis of continued success in academic studies, community service, and leadership. The tradition is a way for leading students to be recognized by their peers, the university and the state. UW Gold is sponsored by Cardinal Key, the junior class honor society.

The UW Gold winners will be announced at the Iron Skull Homecoming Sing Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The winners will ride in the Homecoming parade and be introduced at halftime of the UW-Utah football game Saturday, Oct. 11.

The UW Gold candidates are (listed by hometown):

Casper -- Jennifer Syvertson, a senior in communication.

Cheyenne -- Jessie Berry, a junior in agriculture business; Matthew Fournier, a junior in zoology/psychology and biology; Maurisa Jensen, a senior in secondary education and mathematics; Abigail Lewis, a junior in business administration; Omair Muzaffar, senior in zoology\physiology; Elizabeth (Liz) Rader, a junior in political science; and Sarah Reed, a senior in communication.

Green River -- Kendra Hamel, a senior in architectural engineering; and Phil Harder, a senior in secondary education and mathematics.

Rawlins -- Mahvash Baig, a senior in speech language pathology.

Twin Falls, Idaho -- Jenny Reese, a junior in economics/environment and natural resources.
