Outdoor Program Spring Gear Swap Set for March 7

February 18, 2009
People looking at outdoor gear
Potential buyers scope out the offerings at last year's Spring Gear Swap, hosted by the Outdoor Adventure Program.

The University of Wyoming's semi-annual Outdoor Gear Swap will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the Yellowstone Ballroom in the Wyoming Union.

This well-attended event is a great way to get rid of some old gear that has been lying around your garage or to pick up gear at discounted prices. Typical items range from clothing to technical gear to larger equipment such as bikes and kayaks. Items are priced by the seller, and a percentage of each sale benefits the Outdoor Program at UW. Cash and checks written directly to the seller are the only form of payment accepted.

Sellers can bring in their new or used outdoor gear and clothing Friday, March 6, from 6-8 p.m. or Saturday, March 7, from 8-10 a.m. All sellers must return between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Saturday to collect payment for sold items and/or pick up any unsold items. The Outdoor Program takes a 15-percent commission for sales.

This year's spring gear swap will also include an opportunity to recycle old Patagonia clothing. The following items are acceptable for donation: Patagonia Capilene, fleece or organic cotton and any brand of clothing labeled with a Polartec tag. All donated items will be sent to the Patagonia recycling program in Nevada.
