onathan L. Kempner, former president and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), will discuss the subprime mortgage crisis and its broader economic consequences Monday, March 30, at 11 a.m. in the Wyoming Union East Ballroom.

"Reflections from the Tip of the Spear" will show Kempner's view of the buildup and emergence of the crisis, as well as his related perspectives on work-life balance.

Kempner most recently served as the president and chief executive officer of the MBA, and on the MBA's Board of Directors (ex officio); on the Board of Directors of its business development affiliate, Lender Technologies Corporation; and on the Board of Directors of MERS, Inc., the industry-owned registry for the transfer of mortgage rights.

He now is a member of the Board of Directors of Behringer Harvard Multifamily REITI, Inc. and on the editorial boards of numerous real estate publications. He also serves on the board of directors of three nonprofit organizations: Greater DC Cares, Yachad and the Ciesla Foundation.

This event is sponsored by the Sandberg Speakers Fund, established in memory of Carl Sandberg, a Wyoming graduate whose promising Wall Street career was cut short by cancer. The series brings speakers of national stature in the financial world to UW to broaden the perspective available to students and the community.
