Daniel Galbreath of Laramie received the Presser Foundation Scholarship recognizing the outstanding senior music major in the University of Wyoming Department of Music.

He is a performance major on viola and also an accomplished composer, says David Brinkman, Department of Music chair.

While at UW, Galbreath, a 2007 graduate of Laramie High School, was selected by a panel of distinguished musicians to perform in the annual Dorothy Jacoby Student Soloist competition. He was also selected to perform in the "Chair's Honor Convocation," recognizing the university's outstanding student performers.

Galbreath credits much of his success to the personal attention he received and the wide range of opportunities found at UW.

"While avoiding preoccupation with reputation, the music department faculty promote a high level of achievement in every way," he says. "Whether teaching performance, composition, pedagogy or musicology, the department's faculty members provide their students with a remarkably thorough understanding of their field, always with a view to helping the individual student grow."

The Presser Foundation is one of the few foundations in the United States dedicated solely to the support of music and music education. It provides awards to promising undergraduate and graduate students of music through grants to accredited institutions in the U.S.
