A friendly challenge is on to have the most pledges for Saturday's Race for the Cure in Cheyenne.
As of Thursday afternoon, "Team Green" had surpassed Team UW in pledges, holding a lead of less than $65. Throughout the campaign, UW Race for the Cure coordinators had hoped that the university would have the largest contingent signed up and the highest amount of pledged dollars.
So far, Team UW has the most people signed up with nearly 300, but is still seeking the grand prize for the most money raised for the Susan Komen Foundation.
The campus community still has an opportunity to achieve those goals with a final push. The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m. to register to join Team UW in the Race for the Cure. UW participants can either walk, run, be a spirit walker or make a donation for this important cause, which raises money for breast cancer research.
To help with fundraising efforts, Wyoming Race for the Cure organizers will accept any additional contributions until 8 a.m. Saturday and any donations attributed to the university will be credited to Team UW.
To sign up or pledge support to any of the UW team members, visit the Web site here. If persons do not want to sign up electronically, they can deliver their pledge to Wilma Varga in Old Main, Room 312 through 4 p.m. Friday. Persons who have not yet picked up their race T-shirt can do so in Varga's office.
The race is Saturday, Aug. 14, at the State Capitol in Cheyenne beginning at 8 a.m. UW President Tom Buchanan and Jacque Buchanan are honorary co-chairs of the event. Opening remarks begin at 7:15 a.m. UW participants are urged to attend the opening ceremonies and then line up in front of the State Capitol at 7:30 a.m. for a team photo.
