UW Cultural Programs' Concert Series Offers 11 Performances

Jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut's Sept. 10 concert opens the University of Wyoming's Cultural Programs' series that features a variety of world-renowned performers.

This year's series will include six concerts in the fall and five more in the spring, which will culminate with soprano, Deborah Selig, on April 8. Season tickets for non-students cost $212. For UW students and senior citizens (60 and older), season tickets are $184. Full season ticket orders must be received by Sept. 7 or pick any five performances for $115/non-student and $95/student.

The Fine Arts box Office, located in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center, will be open for reservations weekdays 10-4 p.m. (when classes are in session). For reservations by phone, call (307) 766-6666 during box office hours.

In the fall semester, following Chestnut's Sept. 10 concert, Cultural Programs will feature Stefon Harris and Blackout on Oct. 1. The innovative jazz ensemble's 2009 album, "Urbanus," received a Grammy nomination as the year's "Best Contemporary Jazz Album."

The versatile Dutch ensemble, Amstel Saxophone Quartet, will perform Oct. 21. Pianist Barry Douglas will perform Oct. 26, and the a cappella group, Basix, will be in concert Nov. 6. Finishing out the fall semester, Brazilian jazz artist, Renaud Garcia-Fons, will play Nov. 17.

The spring semester concert series will begin with theater performance, "The Race Show" Jan. 20 followed by violinist Chee-Yun on Feb. 16. The Brentano String Quartet will perform Feb. 25 and the a cappella group, Tonic Sol-Fa, performs March 4. A discovery concert by soprano Deborah Selig is scheduled April 8.
