Mortar Board Pinwheel Sale on Prexy's to Support Literacy

September 28, 2010

The University of Wyoming's Mortar Board Cap & Gown chapter is selling pinwheels in Prexy's Pasture Wednesday, Sept. 29, to raise money for First Book. The pinwheels can be purchased for $2 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The philanthropy is part of Mortar Board's project to serve literacy needs across the United States. First Book donates new, age-appropriate books to children in need -- combating one of the largest inhibitors of literacy: Access to books.

Since its founding in 1992, First Book had distributed more than 70 million new books to children of low-income families. First Book reports that more than half of the children who receive books from them report an increased interest in reading. Mortar Board is a senior honor society that recognizes college seniors for their scholarship, leadership, and service. To find out more about Mortar Board, visit its Web site at www.uwyo.edu/mortarboard.
