For the second year in a row, a team of University of Wyoming pharmacy students was among the leaders in a national business plan competition.

national finalists in the 2010 Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA

The announcement was made at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) annual meeting in Seattle, Wash., in July. The competition's goal is to motivate pharmacy students to create a proposal for buying an existing independent community pharmacy or to develop a new pharmacy. The 2010 competition drew entries from 35 schools and colleges of pharmacy.
The students are members of the UW School of Pharmacy chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). Their winning business plan, titled "Snowy Range Pharmacy and Peak Urgent Care," described a five-year plan for purchasing a pharmacy in Laramie and adding an urgent care center staffed with nurse practitioners.
The students, along with their project adviser, Associate Professor Kem Krueger, will each receive $300 and be recognized at the NCPA Foundation awards ceremony held during NCPA's 112th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition in Philadelphia, Pa. Oct. 23-27.
The National Community Pharmacists Association represents America's community pharmacists, including the owners of more than 22,700 independent community pharmacies, pharmacy franchises and chains.
