UW to Begin Negotiations to Hire Construction Manager for Stimulus-Funded Projects
September 17, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) authorized UW to proceed with negotiations to hire Sampson Construction of Cheyenne as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for 11 capital projects funded with federal stimulus dollars.
The firm was selected following a review of qualifications of six companies and proposals from three companies.
The CMAR is responsible for assisting the university and the design team in defining a maximum scope of work that can be accomplished for the $18.5 million funded through the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, Education Fund of Wyoming. These funds are for capital improvements that extend the life of the facilities, reduce energy and water use along with related operation and maintenance costs of a variety of physical and building systems.
Design work will be completed by January, 2011, and construction is scheduled to be completed before December, 2011.
Construction is anticipated in the following facilities:
College of Agriculture Building
Animal Science/Molecular Biology Building
Arts & Sciences Building
Aven Nelson Building
Biological Sciences Building
S.H. Knight Geology Building
Health Sciences Center and School of Pharmacy Building
Physical Sciences Building
Science Center generator (relocated facility).
