UW Trustees Extend Buchanan's Contract

September 17, 2010

At its regular business meeting today (Friday), the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees extended President Tom Buchanan's contract through June 30, 2014. His current contract was set to expire June 30, 2012.

"The Board of Trustees values Tom Buchanan's leadership of the University of Wyoming," UW Board of Trustees President Jim Neiman says. "These are exciting times for the university, and the board and I want to ensure the progress we have made will continue through the next four years."

UW's projects include the partnerships in the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Project and the High Plains Gasification - Advanced Technology Center, which will be critical to the state's economy.

"UW is growing in ways we could not have predicted even two years ago. With our recent federal awards to support our carbon research and the announcement of our recent gift from Neltje that will advance our reputation in the arts on a national scale, I am looking forward to our next round of accomplishment.

"These projects are great for the state, and they are great for our students, who will have unparalleled opportunities for study and achievement," Buchanan says.

No other changes are being made to the contract.

Buchanan has been president of UW since 2005.
