Rides to Polls Available for On-campus Students Tuesday

October 29, 2010 — University of Wyoming residence hall and Greek housing students can take advantage of free rides to vote at the American Heritage Center for Tuesday’s general election. Safe Ride vans will depart from outside the Washakie Dining Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

His free public lecture, "Lessons Learned from My Grandfather: Non-violence in a Violent World," -- offering firsthand insights into one of history's most influential leaders -- is from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts main stage.

October 28, 2010 — A group of University of Wyoming students will compete this weekend at a regional qualifying event in Fort Collins, Colo., for the largest and most prestigious computing contest in the world.

October 27, 2010 — New Denver-based music ensemble, Telling Stories will present works by University of Wyoming composers Amber Pollock, Ryan Pendleton, Justin Smith, Joao Machado, Jacob Gunnels and Daniel Galbreath Saturday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in the UW Fine Arts Center concert hall. The free concert is supported by the Douglas B. Reeves endowment for music composition.

UW Department of Economics and Finance Ranked Highly in National Survey

October 27, 2010 — The National Research Council (NRC) ranks the University of Wyoming's Department of Economics and Finance in the College of Business as the nation’s leader in faculty research output and eighth overall in research productivity. The review ranked all 120 United States economics Ph.D. programs.

October 27, 2010 — The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Pan Band performs a free concert Monday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall. The program will feature Caribbean steel drum music. International steel drum virtuoso, Tom Miller, will join the band as guest artist. He has performed and recorded with musicians such as Grammy award winners, Allison Krause and the late John Denver.

October 25, 2010 — University of Wyoming researchers have a powerful new instrument to monitor air quality levels in Sublette County. Researchers in the UW College Engineering and Applied Science Department of Atmospheric Science last week unveiled an upgrade of a mobile air quality laboratory that for two years has been used to monitor and help predict high ozone levels in the area.

October 22, 2010 — Matt Francis’ good idea has turned into a good amount of work. The American Heritage Center’s specialist on the papers of authors and journalists, Francis first approached best-selling Wyoming author C.J. Box in April and encouraged him to donate his papers -- including writing drafts, research files, clippings, interviews and other correspondence -- to the University of Wyoming. The conversation restarted in September when Box toured the AHC and began researching some of the center’s digital collections.

October 20, 2010 — Significant reductions in the rate of biodiversity loss worldwide must recognize trade-offs, timing and complexity, according to an article published Oct. 15 in the journal Science, co-written by John Tschirhart, a professor in the University of Wyoming Department of Economics and Finance.

Art Museum Receives Award from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund

October 19, 2010 — The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund awarded $25,000 to the University of Wyoming Art Museum for “Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational.” Funds will be used to add several new works of modern or contemporary art to the outdoor exhibition in the coming year.

October 7, 2010 — In recent decades documented biological changes in the far Northern Hemisphere have been attributed to global warming, changes from species extinctions to shifting geographic ranges. Such changes were expected because warming has been fastest in the northern temperate zone and the Arctic.

Health Fairs Scheduled Thursday and Friday
