UW College of Arts and Sciences Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation Oct. 15

October 6, 2010

The University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences will honor its top students at the Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation Friday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. in the A&S auditorium.

Each year, the college hosts this event to recognize its undergraduates who were listed on the President's, Dean's or Freshman honor rolls the preceding year.

Two undergraduate scholars, Thomas Gregory of Papillion, Neb., a senior majoring in geography, and Robert David Weatherford of Laramie, a senior majoring in English and Spanish, will discuss their research.

The keynote speaker for the event is Arts and Sciences alumna Susan L. Pamerleau (B.A. sociology, 1968), retired major general of the United States Air Force (USAF). The title of her talk is "Leadership Lessons for Life . . . NOW and AFTER College."

Pamerleau served 32 years in the USAF, and throughout those years, she supported UW/AFROTC Detachment 940 as a spokesperson, advocate and example to the detachment's cadets.

She is now an independent contractor providing consultant services for human resources planning and customer service. During her service with the USAF, Pamerleau received numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Merit.

After retiring from the USAF, Pamerleau joined the United States Automobile Association (USAA), a Fortune 200 company that provides insurance, banking, investment management and financial planning to military members and their families. She was senior vice president for USAA until 2007. In 2009, she was named Outstanding Alumna of the UW College of Arts and Sciences.

The Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation is open to the public and free of charge. For more information about the event, call the Arts and Sciences Dean's Office at (307) 766-4106.
