A Converse County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) administrative
secretary has received the secretary of the year award.
Jennifer Barker was recognized with the Frances Freese Secretary of the Year award
, during the recent Extension Secretary Conference - A Professional Event (ESCAPE)
in Laramie.Barker joined UW CES in 2004.
"It was a surprise and definitely an honor," said Barker. "I am fortunate to have
a great working atmosphere with great people around me, not to mention a great supporting
cast from around the entire state. I do enjoy my job, and I hope that shows."
A nominator wrote of her maturity and dedication. "She sets goals for herself, holds
herself accountable to her actions and is a remarkable communicator for the Wyoming
extension service."
Wrote another, "When you walk into the extension office, you are always greeted with
a huge smile or, if you are calling, you can feel the smile over the phone line. She
always has a positive approach to life that is quite contagious and handles circumstances
that come up in the 4-H world with great patience and a lot of grace."
The Frances Freese Secretary of the Year Award was established to recognize UW CES
secretaries for outstanding contributions and accomplishments and is awarded each
year during ESCAPE. Freese worked at the Wind River Indian Reservation extension office
then moved to the Fremont County office where she worked for 25 years.
