UW Horse Judging Team Claims High Honors at All-American Quarter Horse Congress

The University of Wyoming Collegiate Horse Judging team won the limited division at the recent All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. Four individual members placed in the top 10 overall.

"The team did an outstanding job representing the animal science department, the college, our university and the equine industry in the state of Wyoming," said Amy McLean, coach and lecturer in the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The team competed in the Intercollegiate and Youth Horse Judging Contest. The congress is the largest horse show in the world drawing nearly 18,000 horse show entries, according to its Web site.

Team members competed against students from Colorado State University, Texas Tech University, West Texas A&M University, Middle Tennessee State University and Oklahoma State University.

UW results are:

Halter - High individual, Corinna Slingerland, Hudson; third, Kacy Hatten, Wheatland; sixth, Lisa Eckhardt, Watkinsville, Ga.

Performance - Sixth, Slingerland; seventh, Lindsey Hankins, Fort Collins, Colo.; ninth, Eckhardt; 11th, Callie Rulli, Cheyenne.

Overall - Third, Slingerland; fifth, Eckhardt; ninth, Hankins; 10, Hatten; 12th, Rulli.

The team also placed seventh at the American Paint Horse Association Junior Horse Judging Contest and fourth at the National Reining Breeder's Classic this spring.
