UW President to be Honored
January 3, 2011 — University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan will be honored Friday with the Presidential Leadership Award from Outside The Classroom.
The award, which he will accept on behalf of the university, honors the work UW has accomplished in changing the culture of college drinking through a philosophy of collective responsibility and putting in place alcohol abuse prevention activities, including Alcohol.edu, mandatory alcohol education for freshmen; alternative late-night programming; and AWARE, a nationally recognized alcohol education and intervention program.
Outside The Classroom is an organization dedicated to supporting well-informed and cost-effective strategies for reducing alcohol-related risk and preventing harm at educational institutions. United Educators is the nation's leading risk liability insurance provider to higher education and has partnered with Outside The Classroom to help their member institutions focus targeted efforts on this systemic issue.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in the West Yellowstone Ballroom of the Wyoming Union. Featured speakers include Brandon Busteed, founder and chief executive officer of Outside The Classroom; Janice Abraham, CEO of United Educators; and the Hon. Nancy Freudenthal.
A media availability will follow.
