UW to Begin Negotiations to Hire Fine Arts Facility Construction Manager

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) authorized UW to proceed with negotiations to hire FCI Constructors Inc., of Cheyenne as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for the planned Fine Arts facility project.

The firm was selected following a review of qualifications of nine companies. The CMAR is responsible for bringing the project in at or under the project's budgeted construction cost. FCI Constructors Inc. has been certified as a resident contractor by the state of Wyoming, Division of Workforce Services, says Douglas H. Vinzant, UW vice president for administration.

The Performing Arts project includes approximately 50,000 gross square feet of new construction and renovation of portions of the existing building of approximately 120,000 gross square feet. The improvements to the building will include: Personnel and faculty offices; office support such as work rooms, reception, conference/seminar rooms, lounges and storage rooms; teaching laboratory/studios such as music, music rehearsal, acting and dance; and performance spaces such as concert halls and theatres.

FCI Constructors Inc. will provide a preliminary guaranteed maximum price before the 2012 legislative session confirming the construction portion of the funds to complete the project. Construction will begin at the end of the 2012 spring semester with will take 16-18 months to complete.
