Transit passes will no longer be required to board and ride the UW transit system starting this fall. There are several reasons why this change is being made:

  • Continued grant funding support from the Federal Transit Authority administered by WYDOT (Wyoming Department of Transportation);
  • Formation of the Albany County Transportation Authority, resulting in additional community partnerships that tie to increased funding for community routes. Watch for the new community pilot route, Gem City Grand, this fall.
  • Transition to a more customer and visitor-friendly bus service, where anyone can "hop on and ride";
  • Current process of issuing and validating transit passes is cumbersome, and the equipment expense to improve the processes would be very costly.

It is important to note that student fees will not increase in Fiscal Year 2013 as a result of this decision to eliminate the use of transit passes.

Employees that use the transit system are encouraged to make a voluntary financial contribution that will be used to support future route expansion, facilities, and equipment purchases. A secure voluntary contribution can be made here.
