Workshops in natural resources negotiation, facilitation and collaborative decision making will be offered this summer in Jackson, Casper, Laramie and Cody.
Offered by the Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming, the interactive workshops cover ways to resolve complex issues, reduce conflict and create value around natural resources challenges. Open to anyone who would like to attend, the trainings are designed for natural resource managers and planners.

"People in Wyoming care deeply about how our public lands and resources are managed. Wise management requires participation by people in industry and public agencies, landowners, local officials, conservationists and active citizens," says Steve Smutko, UW's Spicer Chair in Collaborative Practice, and the workshop organizer and instructor. "These workshops will help people sharpen their skills in the art and science of making decisions collaboratively."
Other workshop instructors are Mary Lou Addor, director of the Natural Resources Leadership Institute at North Carolina State University; Nina Burkardt, research social scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado; Judi Kohler, communications manager on public lands for the National Wildlife Federation; and Todd Malmsbury, director of communications for the Colorado Wildlife Federation.
The Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources at UW advances the understanding and resolution of complex environmental challenges through interdisciplinary research, outreach and education.
