The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues with Lights along the Shore Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Lights along the Shore is an instrumental ensemble that specializes in original compositions and arrangements of classical and folk music from around the world. The genres include Irish traditional, Moldovan and Romanian folk, American folk, jazz and traditional classical music.
Ensemble members Blake McGee, clarinet; Lisa Rickard, piano; Rod Garnett, Moldovan pan pipes and traditional flutes; and Steve Barnhart, percussion, use a variety of wind instruments in combination with keyboard and percussion to create a unique sound.
“The name refers to the beauty of lights in villages along the shores of the great rivers bordering Moldova, and the lights of Laramie flickering on the expanse of the great American prairie,” says Garnett.
The east parking lot, as well as the east entrance to what was formerly known as the Fine Arts Building, is closed for remodeling and expansion of the facility. Patrons may enter from the west -- off Fraternity Row or Willett Drive -- and park on the west, north or south side of the building. The concert hall will remain open and accessible during the construction project.
