Woman UW Names Interim VP for Academic Affairs

December 23, 2013 — A veteran University of Wyoming faculty member who was instrumental in developing the University of Wyoming/Casper College Center and other UW Outreach School programs has been named the university’s interim vice president for academic affairs.

December 12, 2013 — In an attempt to measure snowmelt in a mountainous region northwest of Boulder, Colo., two University of Wyoming students are determining surface shade through a computer model they’ve created. They hope their high-performance computing research eventually can be scaled up for use on Mount Moran, UW’s high-performance computing cluster, and be a useful tool for modeling solar radiation for the entire Upper Colorado River Basin.

Man On-the-Job Injury Motivates Duff’s Law Career

December 11, 2013 — Like he had done hundreds of times before, 22-year-old air freight worker Michael Duff bent down to lift a small package that appeared to weigh only a couple of pounds. Instead, it contained a rare, high density element that weighed more than 100 pounds. He heard a loud “pop” in his back, and Duff fell to the ground in pain with a spinal injury that still bothers him more than 30 years later.

UW Drivers and Officers Transport Many Students During Cold Snap

December 10, 2013 — Drivers for the University of Wyoming’s Transit and Parking Services, along with the UW Police Department, made about 230 trips to transport students to and from class during bitterly cold weather last Thursday and Friday.

Accident Causes Power Outage on East Side of UW Campus, Community

December 6, 2013 — An accident early this morning on Willett Drive knocked down a power line and caused a power outage on the east end of the University of Wyoming campus. It affected most UW buildings east of 15th Street, including residence halls and the Washakie Dining Center. Additionally, numerous Laramie residents are without power.

December 6, 2013 — Rocky Mountain Power reports that electric power has been restored to the east end of the University of Wyoming campus, including the residence halls, Washakie Dining Center, university apartments between 22nd and 30th streets, and fraternity and sorority houses.
