Warren Lauer, a member of the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees since 2005, died Tuesday at his home in Laramie after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 62.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the First Christian Church, 2130 Garfield St. in Laramie. Those attending are encouraged by the family to wear brown and gold UW attire.

“The entire university community is deeply saddened with the news of Warren’s passing,” UW President Dick McGinity says. “His commitment to UW was remarkable, and his service to the university will have lasting impacts. Both Warren and his wife, Judy, demonstrated extraordinary courage during his illness.”

Lauer, a longtime Laramie attorney, received his law degree from UW in 1980, after earning a bachelor’s degree in animal science in 1976. He served as president of the Wyoming State Bar in 2005-06.

A life member of the UW Alumni Association, Lauer also served on the UW College of Law Alumni Board and the College of Law Board of Visitors, and was a member of the Cowboy Joe Club.

Lauer was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2005 by then-Gov. Dave Freudenthal and was reappointed in 2011 by Gov. Matt Mead. His tenure on the board included service as secretary in 2008-12 and treasurer in 2007-08.

Lauer’s community service included membership in the Laramie Rotary Club, the Albany County Stock Growers Association, the Laramie Regional Airport Board, the Albany County Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Laramie Zoning Board of Adjustment.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, and children Jodi, Lauri, Shannon and Aaron.
