UW Nordic Ski Team Hosts Fundraising Events This Weekend

February 13, 2015

The University of Wyoming Nordic Ski Team will offer a benefit dinner and public race opportunities today (Friday) through Sunday.

Team members will host a gourmet pasta dinner that will include a raffle to support the team tonight at 7 at Spring Creek Elementary School, 1203 Russell St. The cost is $10 for adults, $7 for students and $5 for children.

The Cowboy Chase, the UW Nordic Ski Team’s home meet that is open to the public, kicks off today at 4 p.m. at Tie City. The opening 2km prologue race is part of a new format this year, the Mini Tour, which consists of three races. The second race, a 10km/5km classic interval start, begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. The 10km/5km freestyle pursuit start race begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Competitors also can compete in the traditional pursuit races Saturday and Sunday. The 10km/5km classic interval start is set Saturday at 11 a.m., with the 10km/5km freestyle pursuit start scheduled Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Also new to the Cowboy Chase is the addition of three racing classes -- novice, sport and elite -- each with its own daily, overall pursuit and overall Mini Tour awards.

Registration is $25 per race or $35 for the weekend. Children compete for free. Online registration is available at http://www.medicinebownordic.org/racing-information/cowboy-chase-mini-tour. Entry fees must be paid on site. Race day registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the weekend events will help UW Nordic Ski Team members compete at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association national championships March 3-7 in Bend, Ore.
