She defeated 36 students from around the state and will represent Wyoming at the 27th annual National Geographic Bee at National Geographic Society headquarters May 11-13 in Washington, D.C. The national winner receives a $50,000 scholarship.

The winning question: The city of Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, is located on what large sea? Answer: The Black Sea.

Joshua Hansen, a sixth-grade student at Jackson Middle School, placed second, and Keyan Mefford-Owens, a fifth-grader at Cheyenne’s Pioneer Park Elementary School, placed third.
