UW Idol Semifinalists to Perform April 24

Thirteen semifinalists in the UW Idol competition will sing for top honors Friday, April 24, at 8 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Competing for the chance to make it to the next round of five finalists are Tyler Bloom, Anna Carrigan, Kale Donnelly, Alexandra Garcia, Calista Gresick, Jacob Loyning, Matt Osmotherly, Gwendolyn Parker, Gabriel Selting, Megan Shively, Vikram Singh, Rebecka Smith and Dakota Watts.

Each of the students will perform a song of his or her choice. The judges will critique and score each contestant; the top five contestants then will move on to the finals after intermission.

The finalists each will perform two songs. Judges again will critique and score the contestants after each performance. The overall winner will receive a $1,000 grand prize.

Also the same night, Friday Night Fever will show the film “The Duff” at 6:30, 9 and 11:30 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. “The Duff,” starring Mae Whitman, Bella Thorne and Robbie Amell, is about a high school senior who finds out she has been labeled the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). She then instigates a social pecking order revolution in her school.
