The deadline to nominate individuals for the University of Wyoming Biodiversity Institute awards is 5 p.m. Monday, June 1.

The Biodiversity Institute recognizes persons who have made significant contributions to the study and/or conservation of Wyoming's biodiversity. Awards are given in two categories: Contributions to Wyoming Biodiversity Science, and Contributions to Wyoming Biodiversity Conservation.

Recipients will be honored next fall at a ceremony and banquet at the UW Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. For more details and to nominate someone, click here. For questions, email brenna.marsicek@uwyo.edu.

These awards are presented biannually. The 2013 winners were Robert and Jane Dorn, Contributions to Biodiversity Science Award; and Chris Madson, Contributions to Wyoming Biodiversity Conservation Award.

The Dorns are leading authorities on plant and bird life in Wyoming and the Rocky Mountains. Their research and publications on ornithology and botany have greatly improved our collective understanding of the composition and distribution of biological diversity in Wyoming which, in turn, has helped promote conservation actions and wise management decisions.

Madson is among Wyoming’s most prolific writers on topics pertaining to biological diversity and conservation. Many people have gained a new appreciation about Wyoming’s flora and fauna from his essays, which appear monthly in Wyoming Wildlife -- a monthly award-winning magazine with a distribution of 32,000.
