Mixed Results for Two UW Rodeo Team Members at CNFR

June 15, 2015

It wasn’t the opening performance that two University of Wyoming rodeo team members were looking for at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) Monday at the Casper Events Center, but the pair still has two more chances to gain a short go bid.

Steer wrestler Tylor Bond recorded an 8.3 in his first attempt of the week, putting him in 15th place after round one. The Avondale, Colo., senior’s momentum was delayed when he came off his horse to lock onto the horns. The steer abruptly stopped, causing some difficulty in bringing it down cleanly.

Bond is competing on a severely damaged knee suffered in a rodeo earlier in the spring semester.

Team roper Brit Ellerman, a Fort Lupton, Colo., senior, did his part in getting his rope around the steer’s horns, but heeler Trey Yates, from Eastern Wyoming College, missed the heels, giving the pair a no-time.

Both still have two more chances this week to reach Saturday’s CNFR championship round.

Bond and Ellerman compete in round two Tuesday morning in the second day of slack. Bond then finishes his third round later that evening during the first of four nightly performances. Ellerman competes Thursday.

The third UW qualifier, Brady Dinwoodie, scored 64 points in his first saddle bronc ride Sunday. He competes in slack Tuesday, and his third attempt is Wednesday evening.
