Symposium at UW to Highlight Clean Coal Research

August 6, 2015

Some of the nation’s top scientists pursuing advancements in clean coal technology will discuss their research findings during a symposium Thursday, Aug. 20, at the University of Wyoming.

The 2015 Clean Coal Technology Research Symposium, hosted by UW’s School of Energy Resources, will take place at the UW Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required, as seating is limited.

Researchers scheduled to speak at the symposium are working on projects funded by Wyoming’s Advanced Conversion Technologies Research Program, which was created by the Wyoming State Legislature in 2007 to stimulate research and development in the area of low-emissions and advanced coal technologies. The program since has been expanded to include research on conversion of other minerals into value-added products and fuels.

Projects that will be detailed at the symposium include work on technologies in geologic storage of carbon dioxide, carbon capture, hydrogen and CO2 separation, coal-to-liquids and coal combustion. The researchers represent institutions including UW, Washington University of St. Louis, the University of North Dakota, the University of Utah, the University of Kentucky and several private companies.
