UW Faculty Showcase Recital Opens Music Season Sept. 18

Some of the University of Wyoming’s acclaimed faculty chamber players will perform in the Department of Music’s Faculty Showcase Friday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the newly opened Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The program is free and open to the public.

The recital will feature faculty soloists Stephen Barnhart, percussion, and Blake McGee, clarinet; faculty chamber ensembles Helios Trio: John Fadial, violin; Beth Vanderborgh, cello; and Chi-Chen Wu, piano; and the Versimo Trio: Theresa Bogard, piano; Nicole Riner, flute; and J. Scott Turpen, saxophone.

Music will include the Ravel piano trio, “Spiritual Mountain,” by Croatian composer Ivan Bozicevic, and chamber music by faculty composer Anne Guzzo.  

The concert marks the first performance since renovations to the Performing Arts Center were completed this summer. While the Faculty Showcase will provide a first “sneak peek” at the new 95-seat recital hall, a full grand opening event is planned Thursday, Oct. 8, hosted by the UW departments of Music, and Theatre and Dance.
