Flutist and Cellist Duo to Perform March 29 at UW

March 18, 2016
Jonathan Dexter and Naomi Seidman

Naomi Seidman, flute, and Jonathan Dexter, cello, will perform as JANO Duo when the University of Wyoming Department of Music Faculty Recital series resumes Tuesday, March 29.

The free public JANO Duo concert is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

As part of Whirlwind Premieres, the concert will feature a wide-ranging program of contemporary flute-cello duets that will include the world premiere of two newly commissioned pieces by composers Judah Adashi and Stephen Hopkins. A Baroque suite by Georg Phillip Telemann and Argentinean tangos round out the recital.

Seidman, an assistant professor of flute at Penn State University, has won prestigious solo prizes from Mid-South and Frank Bowen flute societies. As a chamber musician, she has participated in numerous festivals, including Yellow Barn, Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Colorado College Summer Music Festival, Austin Classical Guitar Society and the Austin Chamber Music Center.

Dexter, Seidman’s critically acclaimed cellist husband, has been featured on a number of soundtracks, such as “Bernie” (2012), starring Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine; the television show “Smash” (2011); “Nobelity” (2006); and “A Scanner Darkly” (2006), starring Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr.

Dexter also has composed an original score for the short film “Recess,” which premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
