UW to Host Renewable Energy Summit June 12-14

March 29, 2016

The status of and prospects for further wind and solar energy development will be explored in a Renewable Energy Summit June 12-14 at the University of Wyoming.

Hosted by UW’s Center for Photoconversion and Catalysis, the Wind Energy Research Center and the School of Energy Resources, the summit will cover topics ranging from science and technology development to big-picture policy and management perspectives.

The event begins with a keynote lecture by Bill Ritter, the former Colorado governor who founded and directs the Center for the New Energy Economy at Colorado State University. He will provide an overview of the present status and future of renewable energy, with an emphasis on the western United States.

An optional tour of a Wyoming wind farm will precede Ritter’s lecture, scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the Hilton Garden Inn’s Garden Ballroom.

Other conference sessions will take place at UW’s Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center.

Activities on Monday, June 13, will focus on wind energy. Solar energy will be the focus Tuesday, June 14. Morning sessions will consist of a plenary speaker and three invited speakers discussing the societal and financial aspects of wind and solar energy. The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to a plenary speaker and three invited speakers focusing on the technical and scientific issues related to these renewable energy sources.

A poster session Monday evening will feature postdoctoral researchers and graduate students presenting their research, interacting with speakers and competing for prizes.
