A University of Wyoming nursing faculty member recently received the “Woman of Influence in Health Care” award at the Wyoming Business Report’s “Wyoming Women of Influence” award ceremony earlier this month.

J’Laine Proctor, a clinical assistant professor in UW’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, was honored in the ceremony, which took place at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center Aug. 11.

“I was completely caught off-guard by this nomination and to win, in the health care category, is very much unexpected,” Proctor says. “I feel both honored and humbled to be recognized for my life's work alongside so many amazing and talented women in Wyoming, whom I have long admired and respected.”

A mental health professional, Proctor works at Pathways in Laramie, which provides individual and family counseling; and volunteers at the Downtown Clinic, which serves low-income, uninsured residents of Albany County. She also is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Colorado.

She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Northern Colorado; and her post-master’s, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing, all from UW.

The School of Nursing recently recognized Proctor with its “Communication of Wisdom Award,” based on her interactions with students and colleagues.
