Campus Construction Update for Oct. 2

These are among the construction activities scheduled Oct. 2-8 at the University of Wyoming:

Ross Hall/North Side Fire Hydrant Leak (UW Operations) -- Old Main, Merica Hall, Student Health/Cheney International Center, Hoyt Hall, Ross Hall and Knight Hall -- repairs are complete with the exception of the placement of the fire hydrant. Once the hydrant is set, backfill and concrete placement will complete the project. Completion won’t be until the middle of October. Please use caution when in this area. Thank you to all for the cooperation with the water outage.

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; November 2016) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. Scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. Window replacement on the third floor south side will continue until mid-October. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- Installation of an AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is underway. A man lift will be staged between the Agriculture C and Education buildings all week to facilitate antenna installation. Pedestrian traffic will not be allowed during operations to the east side of the building. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Gibbon Street east of 15th Street (Equipment Services) -- Installation of the culvert at the RMMC storage building is complete. Maintenance activities on the gravel portion of Gibbon Street east of 15th Street will be ongoing. Please use caution around crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Summit Sealants Inc., Montrose, Colo.; November 2016) -- Building exterior surface repairs; window glazing joints/window perimeter re-sealing, control joint re-sealing; and a new elastomeric coating are being applied to the Agriculture Building addition. There will be three hanging stages and associated rigging on the north and south elevations of the Agriculture Building addition. Traffic control and falling debris protective infrastructure will be in place. Please be cautious around crews and equipment.

Arts and Sciences Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction on the upper balcony railing now will begin. Please be aware of crews and equipment in the area, and observe posted closures.

Coe Library (Source Office & Electrical Solutions, Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction of a partition wall system at the open-stack study area (Room 230) is complete. Electrical and data additions will continue through Oct. 7. Library operations will continue as normal. Please be cautious around crews and equipment. 

Southeast Corner of Bradley and 13th Street (Equipment Services) -- Damaged sidewalk will be replaced. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is underway. Painters will focus on the corridors and stairwells of the upper level and work their way down. Painting is expected to continue for several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Hoyt Hall Renovation (General contractor Elk Ridge Builders & Design LLC, Laramie; July 22, 2016) -- This project is substantially complete. The general contractor is completing punch-list items that were identified by the design team. After all punch-list items are complete, and other required documentation is provided by the general contractor, the project will be closed out. 

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion Jan. 4, 2017) -- Rock mulch and sod are being placed in the east courtyard. Irrigation systems are nearing completion and have been activated in the east courtyard. Landscaping continues on the west side of the building. Concrete masonry is complete for the screen wall at the mechanical yard, and finish masonry work has begun. Metal panels are being installed on the north electrical room. Ceiling tile installation continues on the second floor of the west wing. Ceiling grid is about 90 percent complete within the first-floor areas. Forbo flooring has been placed within the CT scanner rooms. The first coat of epoxy flooring has been placed in the west wing of the second floor. Installation of the epoxy flooring will begin next week. Fan coil units will be activated on the second floor by the end of the week. Data racks are being installed within the IT closets. Installation of countertops within laboratories is ongoing. Curtain wall sunshades are being installed on the north and west façades, and caulking work continues around the mullions. Lights have been installed and turned on within the west wing of the second floor. Light fixtures are being installed on the west wing of the first floor. Light fixtures have been installed and turned on within the High Bay portion of the building. Installation of metal panels and flashing will continue on the main entry and the southeast entry. The bifold garage doors are installed on the High Bay portion of the building, and the finish panels on these doors will begin installation next week. Exterior masonry is complete. Building systems commissioning is scheduled to begin Oct. 3.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) Site Clearing/Demolition (General contractor Wyoming Earthmoving Corp., Rozet; October 2016) -- Regrading of the site in preparation for the start of construction of the EERB facility is complete. Installation of a new sanitary sewer line in 12th and Bradley streets to replace an abandoned sewer line in the former alley that bisected the site is about 60 percent complete. A new sanitary sewer manhole has been installed at the intersection of 11th and Bradley streets, and work on this sewer line installation is progressing to the east along Bradley Street. Removal of the abandoned sanitary sewer line in the former alley will take place after the new sewer line work is complete. The contract completion date with the general contractor will be extended into early October to allow for completion of the sanitary sewer relocation work. Please observe all temporary barricades, construction fencing, cautionary signs or other posted instructions around the site where work is taking place. 

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming, Casper; spring 2019) -- A formal groundbreaking ceremony for the new EERB facility is scheduled Friday, Oct. 7, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The construction manager has started mobilization activities by setting several construction job trailers at the site. Bid package No. 1, work consisting of earthwork, site utilities and building foundations, is planned to start during the week of Oct. 17. Bid package No. 2, for structural steel, will be released to the construction manager Friday, Sept. 30.  Bids for this work are expected Thursday, Oct. 20. Please observe all temporary barricades, construction fencing, cautionary signs or other posted instructions around the site where work is taking place.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- All temporary protection measures are in place. Demolition within the BSL-3 space is ongoing and will continue for the next two to three weeks. Excavation for the emergency exit vestibule addition and EDS manhole relocation, both on the southeast side of the building, will continue throughout this week. Be cautious around heavy equipment. Fence will be placed around the excavation areas. A full building heating boiler shutdown is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1-2. Masonry wall installation will begin in the cage wash area the week of Oct. 3. Contractor access to the building will be on the east side.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; September 2016) -- The project includes the installation of a sanitary lift station for the building. The south side of the Performing Arts Center will be fenced off, and occupants will not be able to enter the building through the south side. Use caution around equipment and work activities.   

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the A-A will remain open during the project, but be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area. Demolition on the east side continues with the removal of the upper beam. The temporary construction wall on the inside will be complete next week. Drilled piers are being set throughout the week.

Veterans Memorial Relocation (GE Johnson, Casper; October 2016) -- This project is in anticipation of the start of construction of the High Altitude Performance Center project in late November. It includes relocation of the existing Veterans Memorial on the north end of War Memorial Stadium. The obelisks and all associated stone work, plaques and infrastructure will be relocated to the west-southwest of the Indoor Practice Facility adjacent to Warburton Plaza. A fence perimeter has been established around the new memorial location. Site work, underground utilities and foundations are in progress. Please be cautious around equipment and crews in the area.    

Wildcatter Suites (Commercial Flooring, Laramie; September 2016) -- Installation of new carpet to replace damaged carpet is ongoing in the Wildcatter Suites club area. Please be cautious around equipment and crews in this area.

Biological Sciences Building (Spiegelberg Lumber & Building, Laramie; November 2016) -- Caulking to alleviate leakage and window washing will be done on the south center wall exposure, weather permitting. A man lift will be used. One-lane vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be directed south of lift barricades. Contractor parking will be in the unloading area southeast of the entrance. Use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

Sigma Phi Epsilon (Carpenter and Paint Shops; September 2016) -- Mold abatement is complete in the basement storage area, and wall reconstruction will begin. Use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

General Storage Property Warehouse (Southeast Wyoming Insulation, Laramie; September 2016) -- Insulation will be installed to improve the storage area interior temperature extremes. Use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

Engineering Building Petroleum Wing -- Finish work and painting are scheduled for the southwest stairwell of the Petroleum (west) wing of the Engineering Building. The process will take several weeks. Work will begin at the upper level (between third and fourth floors) and move downward. It is expected that each section will be closed for approximately one week. Material and equipment will be stockpiled in the work area. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area.

Pharmacy east area (The Plumbing Company, Laramie & Equipment Services; October 2016) -- A drain basin will be installed to prevent water from ponding on the east end of Pharmacy. Equipment Services will begin concrete cutting and removal Monday, Oct. 3. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in this area during construction. Please be cautious around equipment and work crews in the area.

The following projects are complete:

Central Energy Plant (ITC Electrical Technologies, Casper; September 2016) -- Installation of new transformers, generators and switchgear is complete.

Coe Library (SE Wyoming Insulation, Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction in Room 206 is complete.
