Energy Transition Events Scheduled in October at UW

September 29, 2016 — A keynote address and panel discussion focused on the challenges facing the energy sector is the University of Wyoming “Earth, Wind and Water” topic Wednesday, Oct. 12, and is part of a three-day set of energy transition-focused activities on campus.

September 29, 2016 — The University of Wyoming Cultural Programs second program of the fall semester is the Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) performing at the new Laramie High School auditorium Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Skiing and Snowboarding Film Fest at UW Oct. 2 and 7

September 29, 2016 — Three skiing and snowboarding films are part of the Gnarly Film Festival coming to the University of Wyoming Sunday, Oct. 2, and Friday, Oct. 7. UW’s student-led group, 7220 Entertainment, hosts the film festival, which is free and open to the public.

September 29, 2016 — The University of Wyoming Art Museum has acquired five major paintings and 20 strappo prints by nationally renowned artist Harold Garde.

UW Chamber Orchestra to Perform ‘Germany Meets the U.S.’ Oct. 6

September 29, 2016 — The University of Wyoming Department of Music will present a free public concert celebrating German and American culture, in conjunction with German Campus Week activities occurring at colleges and universities across the United States.

UW College of Education Graduates Receive Newcomb Beginning Teacher Grants

September 29, 2016 — Seven University of Wyoming College of Education graduates are the recipients of the Lola B. Newcomb Beginning Teacher Support Grant.

UW Conference Promotes Technology to Enhance Teaching and Learning

September 29, 2016 — The eighth annual e-Volution conference for educators to share “best practice” examples of innovative teaching is Monday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University of Wyoming.

September 29, 2016 — With a brisk chill in the air, leaves changing color and nights getting longer, it’s time to start bundling up before stepping outside to stargaze in Laramie. A number of programs at the Harry C. Vaughan University of Wyoming Planetarium during October focus on the clear autumn night skies. One program even has a Halloween theme.

Two UW Students Finish First, Third in Rocky Mountain HPC Conference Poster Contest

September 28, 2016 — Two University of Wyoming graduate students earned a trip to the International Supercomputing Conference in November by virtue of winning the poster contest at the recent Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium (RMACC) High Performance Computing (HPC) Symposium.

September 28, 2016 — The exchange between Jesus and Pontius Pilate contains one of the most famous questions of history. When the Jerusalem priests brought Jesus to Pilate, the first question Pilate asked was, “Are you the King of the Jews?” (Luke 23). All four New Testament gospels have him ask the question in these exact words, and three of them present Jesus as replying, “You say so.”

Flu Shots Not Available to UW Faculty and Staff from Student Health Service

September 27, 2016 — The Student Health Service will not provide flu shot clinics for University of Wyoming faculty and staff this fall. Flu shots are available only for eligible students, according to Joanne Steane, UW Student Health Service director.

Free Tailgate Banner Contest for UW Homecoming Week

September 26, 2016 — The University of Wyoming’s Copy and Print Center is sponsoring a contest for a free personalized banner of the winner’s choice. The winner will be announced Monday, Oct. 3, the beginning of homecoming week.

Join the UW Homecoming Parade

September 26, 2016 — The University of Wyoming Pride Committee is looking for volunteers to don their brown and gold, and walk with UW’s parade contingent and the president’s vehicle during the Homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 8.

United Way Campaign Kickoff Oct. 3 at UW

September 26, 2016 — The University of Wyoming’s 2016 United Way campaign will begin Monday, Oct. 3, with a campus campaign kickoff from 11 a.m.-noon in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center.

September 14, 2016 — The three religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam readily fit the definition of monotheism, which is to worship one god while denying the existence of other gods. But, the relationship of the three religions is closer than that: They claim to worship the same god. While Judaism gave that god a name, “Yahweh,” both Christianity and Islam simply refer to him as “God” -- in Arabic, Islam’s founding language, “Allah” means “The God.”
