Campus Construction Update for Dec. 4

These are among the construction activities scheduled Dec. 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- Temperatures are forecast for single digits, to below zero, for the week of Dec. 5. UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:  

Wyoming State Vet Chemistry Lab (SE Wyoming Insulation, Laramie) -- Work to modify insulation and heating systems is scheduled to begin as materials arrive and manpower is available.

Ross Hall (UW Operations and Marshall Contracting, Laramie; January 2017) -- Construction is scheduled during the evening hours for the week of Dec. 5-9 in the basement central corridor. Half of the west stairs will be demolished and replaced with a ramp. Construction will break during finals week and resume again Dec. 19. Please be cautious of crews and equipment around this area.

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2017) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. Scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. Window replacement on the south side of the third floor is complete. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- Installation of an AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is nearing completion. The contractor is awaiting the arrival of 4-D equipment to complete the project. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Arts and Sciences Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; November 2016) -- Construction on the upper balcony railing is scheduled to begin. A new workbench is being installed in the back section of seats to replace the existing module. Please be aware of crews and equipment in the area, and observe posted closures.

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion January 2017) -- Hydroseed has been placed around the north and east sides of the building, which are closed to access. Painting and striping activities for curbs and drive lanes are underway. Flooring transition strips are being installed throughout the building. Epoxy floor installation is approximately 90 percent complete, with a final coat being placed on the second floor. A final coat of paint is being applied on the second floor. Security camera installation has started on the second floor of the west wing. Cleaning and sealing of exposed concrete floors are taking place in the north wing. Installation of sunshade covers began Nov. 21.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming, Casper; spring 2019) -- Deep foundations are underway and will continue for four weeks. “No parking” signs will go up on the east side of 12th Street for the duration of the project. Please observe direction signs placed within the streets around the project.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- All temporary protection measures are in place. Demolition within the BSL-3 space is complete, including the corridor outside the BSL-3 area, with plumbing, electrical and ductwork layouts continuing. Lab mock-up walls and utility rough-ins have been accepted, so remaining BSL-3 framing will begin this week. New manhole placement and addition concrete footings are complete. Concrete slab and stairs in the addition are complete, with exterior wall framing starting this week. Ceiling installation within the cage wash area will be finishing this week, with urethane flooring to follow. New EDS vent line and room damper actuators are being installed in the existing incinerator room. Backup incinerator utilities will start next week. Contractor access to the building will be on the east side. Preparations for the backup incinerator are complete, and the incinerator has arrived and is placed. Be cautious around heavy equipment.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; November 2016) -- The project includes installation of a sanitary lift station for the building. The parking lot is open for use again. The new pumps have arrived, and a pit for them is being excavated. Use caution around equipment and work activities.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. The grade beams and piers are complete for the commissary addition. Tall walls on the south concession area are being formed and poured. Underground plumbing work for the north concession area is complete. Access to the A-A will remain open during the project, but be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Visual Arts Building (UW Operations BAS Team and Controls Shop; December 2016) -- Testing of newly installed airflow sensors in the printmaking lab will be ongoing throughout the month. Impact to the space and occupants will be minimal.

Biological Sciences Building (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is underway. Painters will focus on paintable corridors and stairwells. Work on the top floor is complete. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Guthrie House (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; scheduled completion December 2016) -- Renovations of first-floor restrooms for ADA compliance are ongoing.

Ross Hall (Colorado Hazard Control, Denver, Colo.; December 2016) -- New flooring will be installed in Ross Hall, Room 352, Monday, Dec. 5. The work will be confined to this room, but some noise and dust can be expected with crews entering and leaving the building. Please be cautious of the crews and equipment in this area.

Visual Arts Building (UW Operations Electrical and Plumbing shops, Compression Leasing Services; January 2017) -- The building’s air compressor is being relocated to a new ancillary building to be placed in the northeast corner of the sculpture yard. The air compressor will not be taken off line until after finals. Preparatory work will start before the end of the semester. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Visual Arts Building (Laramie Heating & Mechanical, December 2016) -- Removal of two building exhaust fans on the west and east sides will be accomplished to reduce freeze potential. A lift will be staged in the east and west entries, which will be temporarily closed for a few hours. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- The project includes a two-story addition to the existing Rochelle Athletics Center (RAC) and a complete renovation of the existing facility for the UW Department of Athletics. This building expands to the south of the existing RAC and features a combination of curtainwall, stone and cast stone accents. This building will employ LEED practices, both in design and construction. The building bears on rammed aggregate piers, with a sloping site down to the existing playing field. The addition will provide a new state-of-the-art weightlifting facility, locker rooms, hydrotherapy pools, academic center and a training table that will provide a high-quality experience for UW student-athletes. The project will feature a new two-story grand entrance that will make a statement as patrons enter from the south side. Parking on the north side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the Arena-Auditorium will remain open during the project via Gate 6 at the stadium across the north side of the field. The project began selectively Nov. 21 with temporary utility infrastructure and site fencing. Excavation and site preparation will start the week of Dec. 5. At that time, all of the doors on the south and southeast sides of the RAC will be off limits for entry and exit. Please be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

The following projects are complete:

Sigma Phi Epsilon (UW Operations Carpenter and Paint shops; November 2016) -- Mold abatement, wall reconstruction and wall finishing are complete.

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is complete.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces has been rescheduled for spring 2017.
