‘Fantastically Strange’ Double Feature Feb. 24 at UW

February 20, 2017

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Doctor Strange” will be screened Friday, Feb. 24, in the University of Wyoming Union Family Room.

“Fantastic Beasts” will be shown at 6:30 p.m., and “Doctor Strange” follows at 9 p.m. The films are both rated PG-13, and are free and open to the public. Cake, drinks and popcorn will be offered, and UW students also have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the evening.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is a spin-off from the Harry Potter series. The movie follows Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) through 1920s New York City as he tries to round up his magical creatures back into his briefcase, save a young wizard and defeat the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

In “Doctor Strange,” Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) must figure out a way to continue his career as a neurosurgeon after he injures his hands in a car accident. His struggle brings him to the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teaches him about magic and alternate realities. Strange’s studies lead him to learn about an enemy trying to destroy the world; he must save the Marvel Cinematic Universe before it’s too late.

The Weekly Events Committee, which organized the double feature, meets Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the Campus Activities Center (CAC), located in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union. For information about the 7220 Entertainment committees, visit www.uwyo.edu/union/cac/7220-entertainment/how-to-join.html.
