Members of Flamenco Denver will perform at the University of Wyoming Wednesday, April 5, at 6 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Maria Vazquez and Susan Richardson will perform, along with musicians Steve Mullins (guitar) and Marisa Perez (vocals).
The performance is sponsored by the UW departments of Music, Theatre and Dance; and Latina/o Studies Program, along with support from UW Professor Emeritus Carlos Mellizo.
Vazquez began teaching and performing flamenco in 1994. She received her degree in Spanish dance from the Conservatory of Dance in Sevilla, Spain. At the conservatory, Vazquez was a student of Carmen Montiel, a recipient of the Premio Necional de Flamenco.
Vazquez toured Europe for two years with Ciudad de Sevilla. She continued performing in Sevilla with other flamenco groups until 2002, when she moved to Denver and began teaching and performing throughout Colorado.
Flamenco Denver promotes flamenco as a living art form and a vital part of Hispanic heritage. It brings well known flamenco artists and dancers to the Denver community to spread the understanding of flamenco. Flamenco Denver has performed at the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Botanic Gardens and at Taste of Colorado.
