Trevor Cook, of Cody, was among seven finalists for the 2017 Tobin Memorial Award as the University of Wyoming’s outstanding graduating man.

The annual award is based on academic excellence and achievement, service to the university, participation and leadership in the community and campus activities, and citizenship qualities.

Anthony Farmer, of Cheyenne, received the Tobin Award, while Sarah Maze, of Ranchester, was named the Rosemarie Martha Spitaleri Award recipient as the outstanding graduating woman during a recent ceremony honoring all the nominees.

Cook will graduate with degrees in theater and dance, and humanities/fine arts. He also will graduate with minors in dance performance, European studies and the Honors Program.

Cook says dancing, singing and acting are his passions, and his education at UW has allowed him to reach heights that he never thought to be possible in these areas.

“I love passing on knowledge to others with the hope that my experiences and advice will improve their lives,” he says. “I hope I have influenced the greater UW community in a positive and impactful way, as much as it has influenced me. UW has enabled me to develop my skills and flourish as an individual.”

A nominator writes that Cook distinguishes himself through his intellectual acumen and his intense work ethic, which is an unbeatable combination.

“Trevor stands out as someone with the passion, courage and strength of character to create intelligent works of art that bring people together,” the nominator says.

Another individual recognizes the energy, talent, ability and hard work that Cook has contributed to the university community.

“He is compassionate and an engaging young person. He is an eclectic and outstanding scholar and artist, representing the college in a balanced and accomplished manner,” the nominator says. “Not only was he successful at finding time to balance all of the things he is interested in, but he was successful in each of them as well.”
