Businesses, using traditional budgeting practices, refer to past data to forecast future results. In times of fluctuating income and expenses, last year’s results may not be a great predictor for next year.

A Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) webinar, titled “Financial Forecasting for the Small Business: Rolling Forecasts in Action,” is scheduled Thursday, June 15, from 2-3 p.m. This webinar will show small-business owners how to use rolling forecasts to create better projections for their businesses. Rolling forecasts are based on key business drivers and use project-based planning to provide a framework for a better vision of the future to support better decision making.

The SBDC is a partnership among the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBDC focuses on educating small-business owners and potential owners on how to successfully start and operate small businesses. The SBDC’s main office is located at UW.

Carl Young, a nationally recognized author and speaker, and former CFO, business owner and scholar, will lead the webinar. Young is a trained accountant, with more than 25 years of speaking and training experience. He is a turnaround consultant and coach, specializing in organization, management, business processes, internal controls, and accounting processes and systems.

His concept of “rolling forecasts” allows business managers to consistently add new data into their process, creating a more accurate financial picture in these rapidly changing times.

The webinar is free of charge due to an SBA Portable Assistance Grant. To obtain the link to the webinar, go to www.wyomingsbdc.org.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. For more information, call Greg Jordan at (307) 766-3593 or email wsbdc@uwyo.edu.

The Wyoming SBDC Network is a business advising group of the Wyoming SBDC, Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Market Research Center and SBIR/STTR Initiative. The network’s mission is to help Wyoming entrepreneurs succeed. Advising and most market research activities are free of charge to Wyoming residents.

The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA. Additional support is provided by the Wyoming Business Council and UW.
