UW Engineering Students Receive National Tau Beta Pi Scholarships

Two high-achieving University of Wyoming undergraduate students received a notable scholarship from a national engineering organization.

The College of Engineering and Applied Science’s Austen Motily, of Cheyenne, and Vivaswat Shastry, of Bangalore, India, both received Tau Beta Pi scholar status.

Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, awarded $520,000 to 271 scholars. Nationwide, 679 students applied for the awards. Most recipients receive a cash award of $2,000 for their senior year of engineering study, and a few will receive $1,000 for one semester.

All Tau Beta Pi scholarships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. All scholars are members of Tau Beta Pi.

Motily, a mechanical engineering major, and Shastry, an electrical engineering major, each received the Record Scholarship. The Record Scholarships, awarded for the first time in 2001, commemorate Leroy E. Record, whose generous bequest will provide earnings to support awards in perpetuity.
