University of Wyoming Calendar for Dec. 4

These are among the activities scheduled Dec. 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Dec. 4, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Carol Frost, a UW professor in the department. She will discuss “The Earth’s Earliest Crust: Insights from the Wyoming Province” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Percussion Ensemble will perform a winter concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for seniors; and $6 for students. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Wednesday, Dec. 6, noon-12:30 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through with museum curators and special guests. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 6, 4:30-6:30 p.m. -- UW President Laurie Nichols and her husband, Tim, will host a holiday open house at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. A variety of holiday treats and activities will be available. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 6 and Thursday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Collegiate Chorale will present its annual candlelight concert at St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for seniors; and $6 for students. Thursday, Dec. 7, 5 p.m. -- The UW Environment and Natural Resources Student Club will screen “To the Ends of the Earth,” a film that follows concerned citizens living at the frontiers of extreme oil and gas extraction. A panel discussion on the current state of U.S. energy will follow the screening as well as a reception. The event will take place in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. Free.

Friday, Dec. 8, 8 a.m. -- Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams host the Power Meet, War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.

Friday, Dec. 8, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Qin “Arthur” Zhu, an associate professor in the UW Division of Kinesiology and Health. His talk, “Studies of Throwing Affordances Inform the Function of Prehistoric Spheroids from the Cave of Hearths,” will be in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Dec. 8, 7 p.m.  -- Planetarium show, “More than Darkness.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Saturday, Dec. 9, 4 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of the Pacific, Arena-Auditorium. Tickets prices vary.

Saturday, Dec. 9, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10, 2 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance’s 7220 Above, a cabaret troupe, will present “Holiday Hits” in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Tickets cost $4.50 for the public.
