The University of Wyoming Art Museum will host a series of gallery walk-through events the first Wednesday of each month during UW’s fall semester from 12:10-12:50 p.m.

“Lunchtime Conversations with Curators” is an informal gallery walk-through with museum curators and special guests that focuses on one of the exhibitions on view in the museum. Visitors are encouraged to continue the conversation after the in-gallery session. The monthly events are free and open to the public.

The Sept. 5 event will feature “Representations of Identity and the American Dream,” with special guests Forward Wyoming and Pokes Vote. The conversation will be led by Jandey Shackelford and Cameron Green, student curators from the UW Art Museum. The exhibition will be on view Sept. 4-Nov. 24.

The Oct. 3 gallery walk-through will spotlight “Indigenous Mapping: Collecting Truths,” with special guest Melanie Yazzie, artist, exhibition organizer and professor of printmaking at the University of Colorado-Boulder. The exhibition will open Sept. 4 and will be on display through March 23, 2019.

The Nov. 7 event will feature “Tashi Norbu: Live Painting,” with special guest Tashi Norbu, a traditional Tibetan thangka painter. Norbu has Belgian citizenship, and lives and works in the Netherlands. The exhibition will open Nov. 3 and run through July 27, 2019.

Dec. 5 is a special Director’s Choice gallery walk-through with Marianne Eileen Wardle, director of the UW Art Museum. The event will feature highlights from the UW Art Museum’s permanent collection.

Discussions will be casual and informal, and will include stories behind the art. Lunch will be provided following each gallery walk-through in the UW Art Museum’s Resource Room.

For more information, call the UW Art Museum at (307) 766-6622, visit the website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum, or follow the museum on Facebook and Instagram.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
