Final Fall Semester Safe Zone Training at UW Nov. 29

November 20, 2018

A training for members of the University of Wyoming community and the public to learn more about the LGBTQIA community is planned Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4-7 p.m. at UW.

The event is free and open to UW students, staff and faculty members, and Laramie community members. The training will take place in the Wyoming Union Senate Chambers. Dinner will be provided.

The final fall training session will cover “LGB 101,” “Gender Identity” and “Visible Ally” trainings. Participants will learn about themselves and about education, collaboration and advocacy.

According to its website, “Safe Zone is a program geared toward creating an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community at the University of Wyoming and in the Laramie community.” The program allows for introspection and thought on various aspects of the LGBTQIA community via discussion about tolerance and acceptance.

Safe Zone aims to educate individuals on issues related to the LGBTQIA community and provides the tools for participants to become allies. It offers a variety of training sessions that cover topics from inequalities in the everyday lives of LGBTQIA individuals to health care issues specific to members of the LGBTQIA communities.
