University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 4-10

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 4-Saturday, Feb. 9 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue (MLK DOD) events take place at various campus locations. Events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Feb. 4, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents David Abbott, a consulting geologist. He will discuss “Honesty -- Avoiding the Misuse of Models” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, a top American dance company, will open the UW Presents spring season. The performance will take place on the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Wednesday, Feb. 6, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. Raechel Cook, curator of academic engagement from the UW Art Museum, will lead the conversation. Lunch will be provided following the gallery walk-through. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 6, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Air Force, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. -- Kai Davis, a writer, performer and teaching artist from Philadelphia, will give a keynote performance for MLK DOD in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 7, 8 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host a hip-hop night in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Feb. 8, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. -- As part of Black History Month events on campus, a Black History Conference will take place in the UW College of Law Building. UW’s African American and Diaspora Studies will host the conference. Free.

Friday, Feb. 8, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Spring Seminar Series presents Melissa Morris, an assistant professor in the UW Department of History and American Studies. She will discuss “Guiana at the Center of the World: Failed Colonies, Indigenous Knowledge and the Origins of Empires” in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “The Hate U Give” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “You Are a Star.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Friday, Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents John Fadial, violin, and Chi-Chen Wu, piano. They will perform “Sonatas for Violin and Piano” in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Saturday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Don’t Feed the Geysers.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Saturday , Feb. 9, noon -- Cowboy basketball vs. Colorado State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Feb. 10, 2 p.m. -- Cowboy wrestling vs. South Dakota State University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.
