University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 25

Monday, Feb. 25, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Lisa Morzel, from the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver. She will discuss “The Hydrothermal System Beneath Yellowstone Lake” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Feb. 25, 6:30 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “King: Man of Peace in a Time of War” in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Monday, Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music continues its Faculty Recital Series with the Ben Markley Trio in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents visiting students from the School of Physical Education at Shanghai University of Sport. They will discuss “My Learning Experience at the University of Wyoming.” The talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 5 p.m. -- The UW Fashion Club will host a model casting for its fifth annual Kaleidoscope Fashion Show, which will take place this spring. Potential models should go to the Agriculture Building, Room 3028. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome double feature: “Mayan Archaeoastronomy” and “From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Fresno State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Feb. 28, 5:30 p.m. -- UW graduate students will present short summaries of their research at the Albany County Public Library. Free.  

Thursday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host its first open mic night of the spring semester, featuring host Hunter Hicks. Sign-ups begin at 6:30 p.m. in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 28, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will present “Classical Winds” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Friday, March 1, noon -- Alec Nettleton, of Schlumberger Wireline, will present “An Overview of Wellbore Integrity and Tools Available to Aid in Cement Placement and Casing Integrity” in the UW Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium as part of the UW School of Energy Resources’ 2019 Spring Speaker Series. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, March 1, 4 p.m. -- “African-American Women in Pageantry,” a panel discussion, will take place in the UW Agriculture Building auditorium. Free.

Friday, March 1, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology’s Spring 2019 Seminar Series presents James Johnson, an assistant lecturer in the department. He will discuss “Community and Craft Production in the Bronze Age Southern Urals Region of the Eurasian Steppe.” The talk will take place in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Saturday, March 2, 10 a.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Family Saturday Workshop for families and individuals of all ages. Family Saturday Workshop is an open studio, makerspace-inspired workshop led by the UW Art Museum’s trained teaching artists and educators. Free. 

Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Fine Arts and Lectures Committee will host Cowboy Con in the upper level of the Wyoming Union. The event will feature panelists, movies, trivia and games. See www.uwyo.edu/union/cac for a schedule of activities. Free.

Sunday, March 3, 1 p.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine On Campus presents “Walk with a Doc” in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Walk with a Doc is a national organization focused on encouraging healthy physical activity while reversing the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. Free.
