Russell Selected Director of New UW College of Business Student Success Center

Steve Russell, assistant dean in the University of Wyoming College of Business, has been selected director of the college’s new Student Success Center. The center will deliver holistic student-centric support and services.

Russell will oversee enrollment management decisions, student recruitment, scholarship allocation, academic advising, study-abroad support, internship opportunities, experiential learning, professional development and preparing business students for careers after college. He begins his duties today (April 1).

“I am excited to welcome Steve into this key leadership role. Steve is a proven leader whose dedication to our students and experience will be critical to launching the new center,” says David Sprott, dean of the UW College of Business. “The Student Success Center will be an essential element of every student’s experience while in the College of Business. From the time a student considers attending UW until launching his or her career, the center will be at the core. Every College of Business student will interact with the center in one way or another throughout his or her time at the university.”

Russell received his B.S. degree in marketing (2012) from UW and an M.S. degree in consumer science (2014) from Purdue University.

Russell began his career as an entrepreneur where he developed a strong sales team to lead the growth of a training and consulting business. He brings corporate relationship expertise from serving as corporate liaison for Purdue’s Center for Professional Selling. Returning to UW in 2015, Russell oversaw the college’s advisory board and outreach efforts before moving into the assistant dean’s position.

Our support of their success isn’t limited to their ability to earn a diploma but, instead, will be inclusive of countless experiences that will shape their lives and future careers,” Russell says. “This center will differentiate our college as a key business school destination and allow our students to truly differentiate themselves on the job market. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to lead an outstanding team in building something special at my alma mater, and I am excited for the work ahead.”

The UW College of Business Student Success Center will be located on the first floor, west side in what was once the old Commerce and Industry Building. The center will support UW’s efforts to provide enhanced advising and career services. It is expected to be completed in the 2020-21 academic year.
