University of Wyoming Calendar for April 15

These are among the activities scheduled April 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 15, 9 a.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, hosts a health workshop for people with chronic health conditions and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be at the Eppson Center for Seniors, located at 1560 N. Third St. in Laramie. Free.

Monday, April 15, noon -- UW’s Center for Global Studies presents Llewelyn Hughes, the associate dean for research at Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific. Hughes will discuss if there is an energy crisis on the horizon. His talk will take place in the Energy Innovation Center, Room 360. Free.

Monday, April 15, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Cathy Whitlock, a fellow of the Montana Institute on Ecosystems. She will discuss “Paleoecology, Climate Change and Conservation” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, April 15, 6:30 p.m. -- The UW College of Law will present the fifth annual Spence Law Firm Historic Trial. This year’s event will be a mock trial using the facts from the Rock Springs Massacre of 1885. The mock trial will take place in the College of Law’s large moot courtroom, Room 178. Before the mock trial begins, Wyoming PBS will present a documentary about the massacre at 6 p.m. Free.

Tuesday, April 16, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health Promotion’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Oliver Honer from the University of Tubingen in Germany. He will discuss “Scientific Support of the German Soccer Talent Development Program: Selected Results from a Sport Psychology Perspective.” His talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, April 16, 5:30 p.m. -- The fourth annual Own It! awards ceremony to honor women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will take place in the UW College of Business Building atrium. Free.

Tuesday, April 16, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dawn of the Space Age.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Wednesday, April 17, 4:30 p.m. -- UW and the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone tribes will host the WY Wind River: Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Symposium in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Wednesday, April 17, 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee presents Jaboukie Young-White, a comedian and filmmaker. He will perform in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 18, 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. -- The John P. Ellbogen $50K Entrepreneurship Competition will be held at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center as part of the daylong UW Entrepreneurship Summit. Thursday, April 18, 1:30 p.m. -- Dave Barry, acclaimed humorist and award-winning author, will speak in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The University Store will host a book signing following the talk. Free.

Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m. -- The UW chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma presents Mr. Wyoming, a male pageant show, in the UW College of Education auditorium. All proceeds will go to the Albany County SAFE Project.

Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO hosts The Two Tracks, an Americana band from Sheridan. The Locals, a Laramie band, will be the opening act. The performances will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 18, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Singing Statesmen and the Symphonic Band present “Where We Walk” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10.50 for the public, $7.50 for senior citizens and $6.50 for students. Friday, April 19, noon -- Restoration Outreach and Research, a UW-recognized student organization, presents the Ecosystem Restoration Seminar with guest speaker Virginia Matzek, from Santa Clara University. She will discuss “Carbon Credits as an Incentive for Ecological Restoration: How Do We Get the Most Habitat Bang for Our Carbon Buck?” in the Classroom Building, Room 310. Free.

Friday, April 19, 8 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “The Cosmic Cooking Show.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open to the public from 9-10 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m. -- The Wyoming Honors Organization and the Non-Traditional Student Council will host an Easter egg hunt on Prexy’s Pasture and in the Wyoming Union. Free.

Saturday, April 20, noon -- Cowgirl tennis vs. Colorado State University, UW Tennis Complex. Free.

Saturday, April 20, noon -- Students Supporting Veterans, a UW student group, will celebrate military veterans with the COMBAT Color Fun Run. The race will take place at Optimist Park in Laramie. Registration packets for the COMBAT Color Fun Run are $30 for adults and $20 for students and children. Registration can be completed at the Wyoming Union information desk, by visiting www.COMBATColor.com or at the park the day of the event, starting at 11 a.m.

Saturday, April 20, 1 p.m. -- Four UW professors and their innovative ideas will be showcased in TEDxUWYO. The event will take place in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Attendance is limited to the first 100 people. Free.

Saturday, April 20, 6:30 p.m. -- UW’s Central Asian Student Association will celebrate its fifth annual Central Asian Awareness Day and Navruz in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Tickets to the event are free and can be picked up Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18, at noon at the Wyoming Union information desk.

Saturday, April 20, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents the “Lynn Harrell and Friends” concert in the Performing Arts recital hall. Sunday, April 21, 1 p.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine On Campus presents “Walk with a Doc” in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Walk with a Doc is a national organization focused on encouraging healthy physical activity while reversing the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. Free.
