UW Entrepreneurship Leader to Speak to Cheyenne Kiwanis Club

An entrepreneurship leader from the University of Wyoming’s College of Engineering and Applied Science is scheduled to speak to Cheyenne Kiwanians this week.

Peter Scott, a professor of practice who is part of UW’s new Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE), is the speaker for the Cheyenne Kiwanis Club’s regular meeting at noon Thursday, April 4, at the Red Lion Hotel, 204 W. Fox Farm Road.

Scott is one of several people hired as part of UW’s effort to boost entrepreneurship education in conjunction with the launch of the IIE. He began his work in Wyoming last fall, with a goal of helping students, faculty members and Wyoming entrepreneurs start companies.

Scott brings to UW over 30 years in industry and academia working with entrepreneurs and technology companies. Most recently, he was the founder of a baseball analytics company that provides digital coaching for analog baseball players. His previous experience includes advising over 25 technology startups in strategy, marketing/sales, finance and securing commitments of over $10 million of investment. These companies have been in varying markets, including solar power, wind turbines, fuel injection, engine controls, consumer products and medical devices.

He began his teaching career as a professor of entrepreneurship at Syracuse University. Most recently, he was a lecturer at the University of Colorado, teaching entrepreneurship to Master of Business Administration students on the Boulder and Denver campuses.

He holds a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

The IIE calls on innovators from throughout the state as it works to instill entrepreneurial thinking to empower the leaders of tomorrow. Adding needed programs and curriculum that draw together all UW colleges, business services and entrepreneurship competitions, the IIE serves as the university’s front door for the state’s entrepreneurs.
