University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 16

These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 16-22 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Sept. 16, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents Daniel Watt, trombonist, and Xin Chang, pianist. The two UW faculty members will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 3:45 p.m. -- The UW American Heritage Center’s Simpson Institute for Western Politics and Leadership will host a panel discussion, titled “The Constitution, Congress and the Presidency: What are the Limits of Power?,” in the Stock Growers Room in the Centennial Complex. The discussion will feature retired U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson and former members of Congress, Scott Klug, of Wisconsin, and Brian Baird, of Washington. The event commemorates Constitution Day. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 4:30-6 p.m. -- The Wyoming Technology Business Center, based at UW, will host an e2e Wyoming meeting at Bond’s Brewing Co., located at 411 S. Second St. in Laramie. E2e Wyoming is an educational networking program for entrepreneurs.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5-7:30 p.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, will host Healthy U, a health workshop for people managing chronic pain and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be in Ivinson Memorial Hospital’s Summit Room. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. To register, call (307) 766-2765 or email dduhamel@uwyo.edu.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Cosmic Origins Spectrograph.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Thursday, Sept. 19, 5-7 p.m. -- The second annual “Community Conversations,” a research and creative symposium on culture, gender and social justice, will begin with a reception at the Alice Hardie Stevens Event Center, located at 603 Ivinson Ave. in Laramie. Andrew Campbell, an adjunct assistant professor at Queens University and the University of Toronto, will discuss “Championing Equity and Inclusion Through Courageous Conversations.” Free.

Thursday, Sept. 19, 5-8 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Life-Woodcut: Printmaking Workshop with Mark Ritchie” in the Museum Studio. The workshop is limited to 12 individuals, ages 16 and up. The cost is $20 per person. Although the workshop is currently full, those interested can sign up to be placed on a waitlist at https://artmuseum.catalog.instructure.com/courses/printmaking9192019.

Thursday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO hosts Shovelin Stone, a Colorado-based folk duo, and The Locals, a country-rock band from Laramie. The concert will be in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Sept. 20-Sunday, Sept. 22, all day -- The Cowgirl tennis team hosts the Wyoming Invite in the UW Tennis Facility. Free.

Friday, Sept. 20, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. -- The second annual “Community Conversations,” a research and creative symposium on culture, gender and social justice, will continue with presentations and panel discussions in the UW College of Law Building, Room 178. Lunch will be provided. The symposium will close with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards Dinner beginning at 4 p.m. at the Alice Hardie Stevens Event Center, located at 603 Ivinson Ave. in Laramie. Author Reyna Grande will present “Immigration and Transformation: Writing to Change the World.” Free.

Friday, Sept. 20, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Brian Rand, a professor at the University of Manchester. His talk will take place in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Sept. 20, 4 p.m. -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving vs. University of Northern Colorado, Laramie High School. Free.

Friday, Sept. 20, 6-8 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host a free reception to celebrate the exhibitions for the fall semester.

Friday, Sept. 20, 8 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Into the Wild Blue Yonder.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open to the public for a “star party” from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement.
